That for soap operas is a passion that never sets: here are the record titles

Passions, loves, betrayals, joy, tears and above all intrigues: these have always been the typical ingredients of the world of soap opera.

A genre that, over the years, he has never known a crisis, continuing to remain one of women's favorite fiction products.

And we're not just talking about the older ones, but also about some young people who love to get lost in these plots overflowing with romance and sometimes, er, even a little surreal.

Here's what the ten soap operas that made history.

Soap historical work

It is inevitable to start with «Beautiful» (original title «The Bold and The Beautiful», which premiered in 1987 and still airs today in about 100 countries around the world, where it is seen by an average of 300 million viewers per episode. Set in Los Angeles, in the world of fashion, it tells the professional but above all familiar-sentimental story of the powerful Forrester family. The original cast remained John McCook (Eric Forrester) and Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan).u2028 Aired in Italy on Canale 5.
The longest running soap opera is «General Hospital», broadcast since 1963 and which has collected awards, has had two foreign remakes (one English and one Japanese) and has not failed to launch some trends. An example? The phenomenon of supercouples, starting with Luke and Laura Spencer who in the 80s fascinated viewers with their adventures (and misadventures). The actress who is resisting the most years within the cast is Leslie Charleson, who since 1977 plays Dr. Monica Quartermaine. It no longer airs in Italy.
Another cult title is "Fever of love" (original title "The Young and the Restless"), broadcast since 1973. Set in Genoa City (an imaginary town in Wisconsin), it tells the story of two families, the Abbots and the Newmans, rivals both on the work front (both are leaders in the cosmetics sector) and on the private side. Around them gravitate other families such as the Chancellors, Chancellors, Baldwins, Winters, Fosters, Brooks and Blairs. Among the most famous actors of the series Peter Bergman (Jack Abbot), Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren Fenmore) Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor), who passed away in 2013, no longer airs in Italy.
The oldest is certainly "Sentieri" (original title "Guiding Light"), born in the 1930s as a radio drama and then passed to TV in 1952. Its glorious history ended in 2009, although it seems to be continuing (in the United States United) on the twitter of the character of Mindy Lewis. Over the years the setting has changed from Five Points in Selby Flats to Springfield (all imaginary). Also in this case at the center of the various intertwining there are the events of some families: the Spauldings, the Reardons, the Chamberlains, the Lewis, the Cooper, the Bauer, the Norris, the Thorpe and the Santos. we remember Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne) and Robert Newman (Joshua Lewis).
The longest running soap in history after «Paths» is «As the World Turns» (original title «As the World Turns»), aired from 1956 to 2010. The plot developed around the dreams and hopes of the Hughes family, who he lived in Oakdale, a fictional location in Illinois. This soap has been a springboard for many stars, from Meg Ryana to Julianne Moore, from Marisa Tomei to Martin Sheen, up to Emmy Rossum.
On the other hand, the path of «Santa Barbara», broadcast from 1984 to 1993, was shorter. Set in the Californian town from which it takes its title, this soap also tells the daily life of two rival families: the Capwells and the Lockridges. Winner of over 20 Emmy Awards, it was also one of the first fiction stories to tell an interracial love affair (the one between Eden Capwell and Cruz Castillo, played by Marcy Walker and A Martinez). In the cast we also find a very young Robin Wright, in the role of Kelly Capwell. Other curiosities: in the soap a very young Leonardo DiCaprio also appeared and two Italian actors, Enrico Mutti and Manuela Metri, also starred.
How can we forget "When you love" (original title "Loving"), broadcast from 1983 to 1995 and which had more success in Italy than in the United States. The soap was set in Corinth, a fictional college town in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy Alden family lived, as well as the Forbes, the Donovans and the Rescotts. In the cast are two Hollywood stars such as Celeste Holm (aka Isabelle Alden) and Jane Powell (Rebecca Beecham). At one point, a young Luke Perry also appeared, who had not yet known the great success with "Beverly Hills 902010", as well as Bryan Cranston (later cult star of the TV series "Breaking Bad").
Another beloved soap was "The valley of the pines" (original title "All My Children", which aired from 1970 to 2011. Two years later an online shooting was attempted (with the plot set five years after the last events narrated), but unfortunately the experiment ended after a handful of episodes. Many stories have followed one another over time, all set in the fictional town of Pine Valley, Pennsylvania. The most famous actress of this soap is Susan Lucci, who played key character Erica Kane.
Considered a sort of sister of "La valle dei pini" was "Una vita da vive" ("One Life to Live"), aired from 1968 to 2012. Also in this case it was thought of an online shooting, but the success was so small that it only lasted five months. Set in Llanview, an imaginary town in Pennsylvania, it begins by telling the story of the rich Lord family and the Siegels, who are on average wealthy. Other families then enter the scene, but of the middle class, such as the Rileys, the Woleks and the African Americans Gray. In fact, "Una vita da vita" stood out for being the first soap to touch on topics such as racial and socio-economic diversity, but also homosexuality. One of her most iconic characters was Victoria Lord, played by Erika Slezak.
Among the most followed soaps in the United States, «Destini» (original title «Another World»), scheduled from 1964 to 1999. Set in Texas, to be precise in Bay City, it represents the first case of crossover. The first intertwining occurs as early as the 60s when Mike Bauer and his daughter Hope, characters of «Paths», moved for some time to Bay City. "Destini" then baptized actors who later became Hollywood stars such as Brad Pitt, Lindsay Lohan, Morgan Freeman, Ray Liotta or Julian McMahon (just to name a few).
