Between markets, exhibitions, parties and events, here is everything you need to know to decide what to do in Rome this weekend

If you are looking for an idea or some ideas to decide what to do in Rome on the weekend, you are in the right place.

This weekend there will be occasions and events ranging from culture to food, from shopping to technology.

The Roman gastronomic panorama can boast a still little-known pearl that will make you experience an authentic journey to the East: Gainn, a Korean restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide 2021 open on Saturdays also for lunch.

From Eataly Rome it will be a long weekend to discover Italian and foreign craft beers, gluten free and ciders to taste and combine with street food proposals.

And then two current exhibitions not to be missed: Bansky at the Bramante Cloister e Sebastião Salgado. Amazônia at MAXXI.

From Friday to Sunday space for prevention and health with the kermesse Tennis & Friends at the Foro Italico. Fans of new technologies should not miss the 2021 edition of Maker Faire Rome at the Gazometro.

We will tell you all the details below.

What to do in Rome on the weekend of 9 and 10 October

GAINN JAPCHAE

GAINN - Restaurants to try

Ever tasted real Korean cuisine? There is always a first time. But after eating from Gainn, this saying will no longer apply because you will want to go back "a thousand" other times (just like the street that hosts it, via dei Mille 18).

The place is really a pleasant discovery although it has been open since 2007. So far it has been mostly frequented by travelers (considering the proximity to Termini station) and by fellow countrymen of the owners, Stefano Chung and Valentina Bae, which is an excellent sign of the authenticity of the dishes.

Already at the entrance, the premises are clear: the Michelin 2021 sticker on the door announces that you eat well and of quality. Gainn also boasts the distinction of being the only Korean to be included in the prestigious gastronomic guide.

After starting with some great ones Twigim Mandu (crunchy fried ravioli stuffed with vegetables) among the various dishes prepared by Daniel Kim - a member of the Korean Chefs Association and, for many years, chef of the Korean Embassy in Italy - deserve particular mention Gainn Japchae (pictured), sweet potato starch noodles with mixed vegetables, seared pak choi, pork seasoned with soy sauce and sesame oil, and Yangnyeom Chicken, fried chicken in a spicy sour sauce and sprinkled with peanuts.

There is no shortage of different types of rice served in traditional cast iron dishes such as Dolsot Bibimbap based on mixed vegetables and ground beef or the Chicken Deopbap, rice with cut fried chicken served with semi-raw yolk, seaweed leaves and teriyaki sauce, all accompanied by Banchan (selection of side dishes that vary according to the season).

Between one bite and the next - also to dilute the pleasant spiciness of Korean cuisine - try the national beers but above all the Soju, a distillate made with rice, barley or wheat. Among the various aromas also strawberry and grapefruit, but do not underestimate it: the alcohol content is 16%!

Open Monday to Saturday from 12.00 to 15.00 and from 18.00 to 22.00; address via dei Mille 18.

Festival of Craft Beers at Eataly

Until Sunday (from 18.00 to 01.00) Eataly Rome will host the Craft Beers Festival: great news of this 2021 edition is the outdoor organization in the spaces in front of the Ostiense store.

Beer, street food and music in total safety: all guests will be asked for the green pass and the entrances will be limited in order to guarantee the distancing.

There will be no lack of zero-meter beer proposals produced in the Eataly Brewery, the Oxiana Brewery, the Alta Quota Brewery and the multiple proposals of Beersolution and Beerfellas, importers and distributors who have selected a wide variety of craft beers for the occasion, as well as gluten free ciders and beers.

In particular, Beer Fellas offers a selection of craft beers from Germany (Franconia), the United Kingdom (Real Ale, Cider) and Italy. Local proposals also for Beer Solution which also dealt with the selection of gluten free artisanal products.

Furthermore, from today it will be possible to participate in the Beer Trail with the collaboration of the Beer Taster Union: for the occasion, the teachers and tasters of the Udb will accompany the enthusiasts on a four-stage tour at the breweries present at the event to learn about characteristics, curiosities and techniques that make each beer unique (single shift on Friday and Sunday from 20.30 to 21.30; on Saturday first shift from 20.30 to 21.30 and second shift from 21.00 to 22.00).

To accompany the tastings of the Craft Beer Festival there will be a selection of street food such as Phil's barbecue specialties from pastrami to brisket, from pork ribs to pulled pork; fried gnocco and tigella accompanied by Emilian cured meats from Mozao; seafood sandwiches but also vegetarian, from Apulia; the kebabs and fried scallops of Scottadito; the desserts of Monteforte, including tiramisu, Maritozzo and cheesecake.

Until February 13, 2022, more than two hundred photographs will be exhibited offering total immersion in this delicate ecosystem, inviting reflection on the need to protect it.

The exhibition is divided into two parts. In the first the photographs are organized by landscape setting while in the second by indigenous peoples. In addition to the images, the exhibition develops in spaces that recall the "ocas", typical indigenous dwellings, vividly evoking the small and isolated human settlements in the heart of the jungle.

The visit is accompanied by an audio track specially composed and inspired by sounds such as the rustle of trees, animal sounds, birdsong or the roar of water.

Two projection rooms dedicated to the wooded landscape and some portraits of indigenous men and women are an integral part of the exhibition. Info and tickets on the museum website.
